List of Colleges in Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore
The Thiruvalluvar University was formed in the year 2002 on the 16th of October, by the Government of Tamil Nadu under the Thiruvalluvar University Act 2002. Before the year 2002, a Post Graduation Extension Center belonging to University of Madras was functioning at Vellore in Tamil Nadu and this center was extended as Thiruvalluvar University.
The university aims at fostering integrated development, providing quality higher education through extension, research and teaching programmes, motivating reciprocal growth, creating stimulating environment and arousing the sense of social awareness among the young generations of the country. Its mission is ‘empowerment through higher education’ and its vision is ‘liberation of knowledge’. Initially, the university started functioning with four departments being physical education, chemistry, zoology and economics. The university follows semester pattern of education in some of its affiliated colleges, whereas non-semester pattern of education is also followed in some of the colleges. The sources of finance for the university are grants-on-aid given by Indian and Tamil Nadu Government and income is also earned through research schemes of Indian Government in addition to fees collected from students.
